On the 13th of April 2005 I awoke from my winter hibernation and received my first flogging of 2005 by Gary. This time there was a new item on the menu -- a new cat from A&G (http://www.aswgt.com/ ) offered to mark the 200th anniversary of the Lewis & Clark expedition. According to A&G a similar cat was used to preserve discipline during the trek. The nine tails are 1/8" thick with a single large knot at the end of each. Gary warned me that this one was 'nasty'. We agreed that I would take 3 dozen lashes first with a hemp naval cat, followed by 3 dozen with a prison cat, to be followed by 3 dozen with the Lewis & Clark cat. I was secured in the garage with my arms tightly stretched up to chains from the garage opener (at ceiling). The first 3 dozen were given and I was given a drink of water. Likewise with the next cat. When the L&C cat was used, it seemed as if all the impact came from the knots. Now in examining the cat beforehand, I figured that with a single knot at the end of each tail, that I would feel both the impact of the tail lengthwise as well as of each knot, but it felt as if all the pain came from the knots and it was bruising. It felt like all the energy and momentum was concentrated in the knots. I would say that this cat packed as much punch as the first two cats combined, if not more. One dozen lashes wore me down pretty well and I asked for and was given a drink of water. Same thing after the 2nd dozen. After the final dozen I was far more beaten down than I thought I'd be, and I was released from the chains for a short while. There were three more whips available that hadn't been used at this point. I did agree to be secured again for two dozen with a single tail, and that would be it. The single tail, which has a cracker on the end, was not nearly as severe as the L&C cat, but still was pretty potent, especially when it wrapped to my sides and in a few cases to my chest. I have a couple of nice welts about an inch from my right nipple. I consider those wraps a nice bonus! I have added three photos of my back after this scene to the folder "2005 Spring" of my yahoo photo album, and one of the Lewis & Clark cat (which I took out of A&G's online catalog) to a folder for whips and cats. Unfortunately I did not have a digital camera at home, so I could not capture the morning after look. However the general redness had faded and there was a nice pattern of stripes, but mostly spots or bruises from the L&C cat. The look of a leopard comes to mind. All in all, a very satisfying session, and challenging, which is a good thing. Yes, I would agree that the L&C cat is a bit nasty.
